Trust in God Amid Uncertainty
As we approach the end of the liturgical year, the Church turns our attention to the “end times.” The readings for the 33rd Sunday of Ordinary Time challenge us to reflect on how we live in a world that is both passing away and being renewed in God’s promises.
In the Gospel (Mark 13:24-32), Jesus uses apocalyptic imagery to describe cosmic upheavals and the coming of the Son of Man. These words can seem alarming, but their purpose is not to frighten us. They remind us that change, even on a cosmic scale, is part of God’s plan.
Life is full of uncertainties—wars, natural disasters, personal crises—but Jesus calls us to remain steadfast. The reassurance is clear: “Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away.” Amid the shifting sands of life, Christ’s words and promises are the unchanging foundation we can trust. Life can be unpredictable, but we are invited to place our trust in the eternal promises of God, who is always faithful. We are called to live every day as if it were our last—not in fear, but in gratitude, love, and service. Like the righteous in Daniel’s vision, we are to “shine brightly” through acts of kindness, faith, and justice, giving hope to a world often overshadowed by fear.
As we reflect on the end times, we are reminded that our journey is part of a larger story—God’s story of salvation. While the details of the future remain hidden, our task is clear: to live with faith and vigilance, trusting in God’s unchanging word.
Let us open our hearts to His grace and prepare for His coming—not with fear, but with joyful anticipation, knowing that He is our inheritance and eternal reward.
