Father Cosmas Ajawara was born in January 1971 in Orlu, Nigeria. In 1983 he entered the Minor Seminary. After completing Minor Seminary, he was assigned to the Bishop’s Office for one year before entering the Major Seminary in 1989 until 1993. He returned for a year to the Bishop’s Office. Entering for his theology studies in 1994 to 1998.
Father Cosmas moved to Canada in 2003 to start his work for the Archdiocese of Kingston. His first assignment was at Holy Cross Parish in Kemptville, and the mission of St. Daniel’s Church in South Mountain, where he served from 2005. In 2005 he moved to beautiful Merrickville for the next 3 years. He spent from 2008 to 2009 at Holy Name of Jesus Parish in Kingston Mills until his next posting to St. Mary’s the Presentation Parish in Chesterville, and returning to the mission of St. Daniel’s Parish in South Mountain. During his eight years in Chesterville/South Mountain, the church of St. Daniel’s was lost in a horrific fire devastating their community. In no time, working with the community, he oversaw the rebuilding of the current church in South Mountain.
On August 1st, 2017, Father Cosmas was appointed to St. Mary’s Church in Carleton Place. With the city’s growth and rich faith, St. Mary’s parishioners warmly welcomed Father Cosmas and were saddened to see him go this past summer.
In August 2022, Archbishop Mulhull assigned him as the new Pastor of St. Joseph’s Church in Kingston where he continues to serve today.
