The Leper’s Faith and Humility
Leprosy in biblical times was not just a physical ailment but also a social and spiritual burden. Lepers were ostracized, forced to live apart from the community, and considered unclean. Despite these barriers, the leper in today’s gospel boldly approaches Jesus, acknowledging both His power and His will:
“If you are willing” shows a humble submission to Jesus’ divine authority.
“You can make me clean” expresses unwavering faith in Jesus’ ability to heal.
Do we approach Jesus with the same faith and humility in our moments of need? The leper teaches us to trust in God’s power while surrendering to His will.
Jesus’ response is deeply personal: He stretches out His hand, touches the leper, and says, “I am willing. Be clean!” This act of touching the untouchable is revolutionary:
Jesus breaks social and religious norms to show that no one is beyond His love and care.
His touch not only heals physically but also restores the leper’s dignity and inclusion in the community.
How do we treat the “untouchables” in our own lives—those marginalized by society? Jesus calls us to imitate His compassion, breaking barriers of prejudice and fear to reach out to those in need.
Jesus’ healing of the leper reminds us that His love and power extend to everyone, especially those who feel isolated, broken, or unworthy. Let us approach Him with faith, share His compassion with others, and always remain grounded in prayer. May we experience His healing touch in our lives and become instruments of His love in the world.
