Embracing the Call to Mission
In today’s Gospel reading from Mark 6:7-13, we see Jesus sending out His twelve disciples on a mission. This passage not only gives us a glimpse into the early ministry of the disciples but also offers timeless lessons for us as modern-day followers of Christ.
Jesus summoned the twelve and began to send them out in pairs, giving them authority over unclean spirits. This sending out is significant. It tells us that the mission of spreading the Gospel is not a solitary endeavor. Jesus sent His disciples out in pairs, emphasizing the importance of community, mutual support, and accountability. As Christians, we are called to work together in our mission to share the Good News.
The disciples were to rely not on their own resources but on God’s faithfulness and the hospitality of others. In our own lives, we are often tempted to rely on our own abilities and resources. This passage reminds us to place our trust in God and depend on His provision.
As we reflect on this passage, let us be inspired by the example of the disciples. Let us embrace our call to mission, trust in God’s provision, preach repentance, bring healing and deliverance, and keep our focus on the simplicity of the Gospel message.
May the Lord bless us and guide us as we strive to follow Him faithfully. Amen.
