Advent: A Time of Transformation and Renewal
Dear brothers and sisters in Christ, today we begin the beautiful season of Advent—a time of joyful expectation and spiritual preparation for the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. The First Sunday of Advent sets the tone for this season, calling us to stay awake and prepare for the Lord’s arrival.
Advent has a dual purpose: it reminds us of Christ’s first coming in Bethlehem and urges us to anticipate His second coming in glory. The liturgy today emphasizes readiness and vigilance, not just for Christmas but for the moment we meet Christ, whenever that may be.
Advent is a time for us to ascend spiritually. We are invited to leave behind the valleys of sin and indifference and journey toward holiness. Isaiah’s prophecy challenges us to reflect: Are we walking in the light of the Lord, or have we strayed onto darker paths?
Advent is a time to examine our lives. Are we so preoccupied with our own plans and pleasures that we fail to recognize the signs of God’s presence? Jesus calls us to stay awake and be ready. This doesn’t mean living in fear but cultivating a joyful readiness for His coming.
As we enter this sacred season of Advent, let us heed the call to stay awake, be watchful, and prepare our hearts for the coming of our Savior. May we, like the people in Isaiah’s vision, journey toward the Lord’s mountain, walking in His light. And when Christ comes, may He find us ready, faithful, and full of hope.
Let us pray for the grace to embrace this Advent season as a time of transformation and renewal. Amen.
