Strength for the Journey
On this Second Sunday of Lent, the Church invites us to reflect on the mystery of the Transfiguration of Jesus on Mount Tabor. It is a moment when Jesus reveals His divine glory to Peter, James, and John, strengthening them for the trials to come.
The Gospel tells us that as Jesus prayed, “His face changed in appearance, and His clothing became dazzling white” (Lk 9:29). This glorious transformation was not just for display; it was a confirmation that Jesus is truly the Son of God. The presence of Moses (the Law) and Elijah (the Prophets) shows that Jesus is the fulfillment of God’s promises.
Before His suffering and death, Jesus gave His disciples a glimpse of His divine nature. He knew that they would soon face the horror of His Passion. The Transfiguration was meant to strengthen their faith, to remind them that beyond the Cross, there is victory.
In our lives, we also experience moments of darkness—suffering, doubts, and trials. Like the disciples, we may feel afraid or confused. But God gives us moments of light and grace to strengthen us. These may come through prayer, the Eucharist, or encounters with His love in our daily lives.
