Where is your trust?

Where is your trust?

On this 6th Sunday in Ordinary Time (Year C), the readings invite us to reflect on the source of true happiness. The contrast between blessings and woes in the Gospel challenges us to examine where we place our trust—whether in God or in worldly things. Relying solely on human power, wealth, or influence leads to disappointment. But when we root our lives in God, we find true strength and stability.

In the Gospel, Jesus delivers a version of the Beatitudes that challenges the world’s definition of happiness. Jesus teaches that true joy does not come from material comfort but from living in relationship with God, even in times of suffering.

In the second reading, St. Paul reminds the Corinthians that their hope is in the resurrection of Christ. If Christ has not risen, then our faith is in vain. But because He has risen, we have the assurance of eternal life. This gives us the courage to endure hardships, knowing that our suffering is not in vain.

So, where is Your Trust? Do I rely on material wealth and human strength, or do I trust in God? Do I find happiness in God’s presence, or am I distracted by the world’s temporary pleasures?

Let us plant ourselves firmly in God’s love, like the tree by the waters, so that we may bear fruit in this life and enjoy eternal happiness with Him.

May the Lord help us to trust Him more each day. Amen.
